The Earls Court Development Company has announced that Peter Runacres has joined the team as Head of Urban Futures. Peter will focus primarily on the intersection of environmental sustainability, innovation, technology and human-centred design.


Peter has a strong track record of working on innovative regeneration and development projects both in London and around the world. This includes the large-scale regeneration of King’s Cross and New Street Square in London, and the Al Bahar Towers in Abu Dhabi, which won the 2012 Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats’ Innovation Award. He joins the ECDC team having earnt a respected profile within the development industry, with a reputation as a powerful advocate for improved, forward-looking and more sustainable methods of development.


Peter’s priority will be ensuring the long-term resilience of the Earls Court masterplan and infrastructure design. The role centres around improving the integration of good design, purposeful technology and sustainability into the ECDC masterplan and buildings, from concept to operation.


ECDC has announced their ambition to go beyond net zero in their development of the area, has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and joined the UN’s ‘Race to Zero’. Peter will lead on delivering to these and other ambitious targets, setting the company’s sustainability strategies across various sectors, and setting roadmaps for achieving zero carbon emissions on the site.
