Get Living, the UK’s leading build-to-rent operator, developer and investor, is launching two Inspiring Community funds for local non-profit organisations and resident groups. Working with ActionFunder, a digital platform that brings responsible businesses together with non-profits to make change happen, the two funds of £20,000 each will support communities at New Maker Yards, Salford and East Village, Stratford. The funding will be made available to organisations and local residents making a positive impact on the local area.

Applications to the community funds will be carefully assessed against several judging criteria, with successful applications selected based on key themes: creating a greener, safer neighbourhood, supporting local growth and job opportunities, enabling the local community to engage in arts, culture and creative activities and improving neighbourhood inclusivity. The funds will be allocated by a judging panel made up of local stakeholders and residents.

The launch of the two funds in Manchester and London follow the successful Inspiring East Village Community Fund in 2022 and a similar funding campaign at New Maker Yards in 2021. These previous community funds supported 13 local projects that provided young people with access to employability workshops, sport, arts and culture initiatives and helped vulnerable individuals navigate family breakdown and changes in employment and education status.

Supporting local community projects with funding is an important part of Get Living’s commitment to providing wider social, environmental and economic benefits to the communities in which it operates. As a long-term stakeholder in places, Get Living’s aim is to strengthen ties with local groups and support projects and causes that cater to the local need. In addition to providing funding, Get Living incorporates creative placemaking initiatives in its neighbourhoods that engage, upskill and empower local people.

Ailish Christian-West, Chief Operating Officer at Get Living, commented, “We are fully invested in the long-term success of our neighbourhoods and we know that we have a responsibility not only to our residents, but also the wider communities to have a lasting positive impact. Local projects, groups and organisations are often crucial to the wellbeing of communities, which is why we continue to support them via our Inspiring Communities funds. To date our support has enabled local organisations to provide invaluable support to hundreds of residents, helping to broaden horizons through creative workshops and providing access to new employment and training opportunities.”

Sophie Forge, Senior Consultant at ActionFunder, said, “It’s fantastic to see Get Living investing in its communities once again, using the ActionFunder platform to distribute funding and measure impact, as well as asking residents to be involved in the process. We look forward to facilitating the panels and seeing which deserving projects will get funding to meet their local challenges this year”.

Get Living was founded in 2013 with the UK’s first large-scale build-to-rent neighbourhood at East Village, Stratford. Today it manages 4,000 homes across three neighbourhoods in London and Manchester, with a planned pipeline that will see the business grow to over 10,000 homes across the UK.
